# **Punch passes** for sports facilities

The ten-swim card, made digital: it sells itself from a phone and the use is deducted at the turnstile, with nothing stamped at reception.

## On screen: A ten-use pass, and the ones a member has bought

- The uses, the amount and how long it lasts define the product you are selling.
- A time band lets you have a morning pass that costs less than the afternoon one.
- Every purchase is its own ticket, and the oldest gets spent first, because it is the one that expires first.

## What usually happens

- Cardboard cards stamped by hand and easy to forge.
- Nobody knows how many passes are out there or how many uses are left unspent.
- Members have to go to reception so somebody deducts their swim.
- Summer passes that have to be taken out of circulation in September.
- The parent who wants to use their pass to get their children in.

## Sold without a desk, spent without a stamp

### The pass is bought from a phone

Members pay by card whenever suits them, Sunday included. Reception sells nothing and collects nothing.

### The use is deducted on the way in

They walk through the turnstile and one swim comes off. No queue, no stamp and nobody writing anything down.

### You know what you sold and what is still owed in uses

How many passes are live, how many uses are outstanding and how much you took. With cardboard you never knew.

- **€35** — a ten-swim pass, like the one tested in the audit
- **08:00 – 22:00** — usage band, so you can run morning and afternoon passes
- **0** — stamps to put on anything at the desk

## Passes that fit your facility

### Walk-in, or with a guaranteed place

At a walk-in pool you just turn up and spend a use. If the space has a capacity limit, the pass makes people book, and that is how you control occupancy.

### Summer only, or three months from purchase

A pass can expire on 31 August for everyone, or three months after each person buys it. Or both.

### Residents only

A municipal pass can be restricted to a group, both to buy it and to use it.

### Top up instead of selling another

When a member runs out, uses are added to the same ticket, and the movement stays in their history.

## For their family, if you want

### A pass the family can use

Marked as transferable, it stops being personal and works for getting the holder's children or guests in.

### And not shared by two strangers

A specific check stops the same credential coming in twice without having gone out, which is how a pass actually gets shared.

## What members sort out themselves

Desde la app gratuita, sin pasar por el mostrador.

- Buy the pass in the app and pay by card.
- See how many uses they have left.
- Get in by validating the pass at the turnstile, without going to reception.
- Book paying with the pass, when the facility has a capacity limit.

## What you should know

- It is the only way in that needs a connection: the turnstile has to check right then how many uses are left.
- A walk-in pass does not control capacity. If you need to limit how many people are inside, the pass has to require a booking.
- A pass that covers only one player's share requires the court to have per-player rates.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the difference between a walk-in pass and one that requires booking?

A walk-in pass is deducted as you come in and needs no booking, but it does not control capacity either, because nobody knows how many people to expect. One that requires booking does let you control occupancy by time band, which is what you need when a space has a limit.

### Do passes work if the center loses its internet connection?

No. It is the only route in that needs a connection, because the turnstile has to check right then how many uses are left. The others — bookings, memberships and courses — keep working from the local copy of authorizations.

### Can a pass be topped up instead of selling another one?

Yes. Uses are added to the ticket they already hold and the movement is recorded in their history, which stops one person accumulating loose tickets.

### What happens if someone buys a pass and the payment fails?

The pass is not created until the bank confirms the payment. If confirmation never arrives, the system discards the operation after a few minutes and nothing is left half done.

### Can a parent use their pass to get their children in?

Yes, if the pass is marked as transferable. It then stops being personal and works for booking and getting in on someone else's behalf.
